02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The Trust is an independent body for the benefit of the community to promote the development ad advancement of research and scientific work in respect of life sciences, environment sciences and cognate sciences generally and promotes the dissemination of knowledge acquired from such research. The Trustees make grants, loans or payments out of the income or the capital of the Trust Fund to any person or body that the Trustees think fit in furtherance of the aforementioned or for such other charitable purposes as the Trustees may determine. The beneficiaries of the Trust are James Hutton Institute, universities and students.

(i) To promote research and scientific work in respect of life sciences, environmental sciences and cognate sciences generally, and in particular, but without prejudice to the foregoing generality, wood sciences and biomathematics. production of agricultural, horticultural and. forestry crops and matters ancillary thereto. methods of increasing production and growth, of limiting or eradicating diseases or pests and of improving cultivation, harvesting or marketing. and research into possible varieties, species and types of plants (ii) To promote the dissemination of knowledge acquired as a result of such research to others
