02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Offering a range of cultural workshops, art installations, facilities and conservation activities to encourage people to access the green space along the Dighty Burn corridor in Dundee - for enjoyment and health and well being and to raise awareness of the area's valuable ecodiversity and develop self-participation in the its preservation. Workshops include a mosaic group to create mosaics for installation along the burn and family craft sessions run by a contracted art worker. Art installations include mosaics depicting flora and fauna and historical scenes connected with the burn (eg a triptych of the Strathmartine Dragon and local bleach fields). Facilities include creation and installation of wooden benches and picnic tables and painted sculptures for people's enjoyment and meeting points. Conservation activities include maintaining sites by cutting back vegetation, painting bridges and litter picking and encouraging others to do so.

4.1 To advance, promote and encourage environmental improvement and protection in and around eastern Dundee. 4.2 The advancement of arts, heritage, culture and science in green spaces through workshops, events, publicity and resource production. 4.3 The advancement of citizenship and community development though programmes to connect people to local their green space and training and support local people to deliver their own projects. 4.4 The advancement education about environmental, cultural and heritage issues via programmes, training, publicity and resource delivery.
