02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The aims of the trust are:- A To hold the island in perpetuity for the recreational, educational and cultural enjoyment for the public at large. B Manage the Island and its natural resources and its built or made resources to the highest possible standards of conservation in cooperation with Historic Scotland and Scottish Natural Heritage and their successors. C To make provision in the interest of social welfare of facilities for recreational and other leisure time activity available to the public at large with a view to improving their condition of life.

(a) To hold in perpetuity the island in the Sound of Jura known as Eilean Mor Mhic ui Charmaig (in Gaelic) and Eilean Mor MacCorrnick (in English) and in the title deeds of same described as ALL and WHOLE the Lands and Island or Islands of Saint MacKormyck otherwise called Island More lying within the Lordship of Tarbert and Sheriffdom or County of Argyll for the recreational, educational and cultural enjoyment of the public at large (b) To manage the island and its natural resources and its built or made resources to the highest possible standards of conservation in cooperation with Historic Scotland and Scottish Natural Heritage and the successors of either or both bodies (c) To make provision in the interest of social welfare of facilities for recreation and other leisure time activity available to the public at large with a view to improving their conditions of life
