02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The object of the Society is to advance the education of the public about the beauty, history and character of the parish of Golspie by stimulating public interest in and care for the beauty, history and character of the Parish. The Society store historical items which have been donated to them, some of which are always on display in the meeting room. Others are displayed at relevant times, such as the annual exhibition, which is normally held during Golspie Gala Week and the following week. Monthly meetings are held with guest speakers giving talks on history relevant to the area. These talks are popular and usually attended by 35-40 people. The Society’s premises are open on Tuesday mornings throughout the year for people to drop in and chat. They are encouraged to share memories of Golspie, some of which are recorded. Old photos are often looked through and names added, where some were unknown before. Many look forward to the Tuesday morning meetings, especially some older men
