02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

First Argyll Scouts was set up to help young people in Oban build confidence and learn practical life skills through fun, hands-on activities in a social setting outwith school. The volunteer leaders focus the weekly sessions on a variety of areas including learning useful skills (like first aid and teamwork), outdoor activities (like cycling, hiking and bush crafts), and developing responsibility, leadership, and good values. As well as weekly sessions in our hall / around Oban, we organise several camps throughout the year for the children to attend. These camps can involve activities such as rock climbing, canoeing and archery, amongst others. The camps are in a variety of locations, both locally for a night or two, or further away across Scotland and also recently have included an international trip to Norway. The children gain so much for attending our Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts groups and parents note that our programme of activities helps them build confidence and grow into
