02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The object for which the company is established is to advance the education of the public concerning the culture, history, environment & development of Orkney throughout the ages. In furtherance thereof but not otherwise: (i) To promote & develop in Orkney & elsewhere general & specialist interest in all aspects of science, technology, palaeontology, palaeology, palaeobiology, palaeobotany, palaeogeography, palaeozoology, palaeoanthropology, archaeology including industrial archaeology, antiquarianism & the cultural, social, agrarian & domestic history of Orkney. (ii) To do all such things as will further the attainment of this object & will contribute to the knowledge of the culture, history, environment & development of Orkney & of the study of palaeontology, science, technology & antiquarianism within the Orkney Fossil & Vintage Centre, but subject to the proviso that nothing will be done which will or may prevent the object of the company being deemed to be charitable.
