02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Twechar Community Action (TCA) operates from within the Twechar Healthy Living and Enterprise Centre (THLEC) to provide the accommodation and resources required to deliver a range of recreational, educational and leisure activities to its community as well as offering volunteering, skills training and employment opportunities to local people. The THLEC accommodates a full time Pharmacy, a Café, a hairdressing salon, a sports hall and a variety of meeting rooms that can be used by local community groups and statutory organisations for satellite surgeries, training, holistic therapies and social activities that aim to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of its participants. All these projects and initiatives are underpinned by a strong community development model which improve the physical, economic and social fabric of Twechar. TCA is instrumental in bringing about change in the aspirations of residents in the village and to improve their physical and mental wellbeing.

(1) To provide facilities for recreation and other leisure time occupation available for the residents of Twechar and the surrounding area ('the Operating Area') with a view to improving their conditions of life. (2) To relieve poverty, in particular among the residents of the Operating Area, in such ways as may be thought fit. (3) To advance education among the residents of the Operating Area. (4) To promote, establish, operate, and/or support other projects and programmes of a charitable nature for the benefit of the residents of the Operating Area.
