02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Scottish Youth Theatre Trust is a charitable fund that receives donations and distributes funds for the benefit of young people’s learning in theatre and associated artistic disciplines in Scotland including the support of Scottish Youth Theatre Ltd. The Trust manages and responsibly invests its capital to grow the value and generate income. The distribution of funds is at the discretion of Trustees and there is no obligation to do this year on year.

Constitutional objectives
(1) the promotion, maintenance, improvement and advancement of public education and the stimulation and education of the public in high standards of theatrical education and drama activities for young people in Scotland under the age of twenty six. (2) the pursuit of theatrical excellence and development of the creative skills of young people through the theatrical crafts. (3) the guidance, teaching, tutoring and training of young people in any of music, opera, ballet, drama, visual arts, film, sound, video, exhibitions, performance and matters of all kinds which are conducive to the promotion, maintenance, improvement, advancement and encouragement of the arts in Scotland. (4) in particular but without prejudice to the generality the provision of support and encouragement to the Scottish Youth Theatre and to participants in its programmes and activities so long as such shall be exclusively charitable, and the provision of similar support and encouragement to any similar or successor body or group as the Trustees shall deem fit from time to time.
