02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The Dhanakosa Trust exists to encourage and support the practice of Buddhism, and to promote Buddhist values an principals both within the Buddhist community and in society more broadly. It does this through i. offering retreats with a broad educational perspective on personal development as understood in the Buddhist tradition ii. Personal mentoring and guidance iii. Support of a Buddhist residential community practice context.

Constitutional objectives

2. The purposes of Dhanakosa Trust are: The Advancement of the Buddhist religion. In particular: (i) To provide residential retreats, online retreats, and other teaching and practice opportunities teaching Buddhism, and complementary disciplines where these can be demonstrated to further the purposes of the Charity. (ii) To encourage members and others to live in accordance with the teachings of the Buddha. (iii) To support ordained members of the Triratna Buddhist Order and other duly identified practicing Buddhists, at the discretion of the Board of the Trust. Including but not limited to the following. (a) Practical, material, and financial support that enables individuals to advance their own practice of Buddhism. (b) Practical, material, and financial support that enables individuals to further the objectives of the charity through the outward expression of their practice of Buddhism. (c) Practical, material, and financial support to provide relief for those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage (including relief given by the provision of accommodation or care) where such individuals have previously received support under section (iii a.) or (iii b.) and where such support alleviates hardship or poverty or prevents hardship or poverty. At the discretion of the board.
