02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The stroke group is set up to organise and help with activities for those who have suffered a stroke who we call our members. There are over 50 helpers who help once per month and 30 members who are encouraged to attend every week and the average number who attend is 20. There is a meeting one afternoon per week in a local hall from mid August to the end of May. Each week two physiotherapists supervise physical and mental exercises and games. Thereafter members in groups play dominoes, chess, scrabble, etc. or have quizes or do crosswords or sit and chat. At the end of the afternoon the members enjoy tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes provided by the helpers . Everyone is encourged to socialise Entertainment is organised for some afternoons as are outings.
