02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
LFW was established to promote the performance, learning and appreciation of Scottish traditional fiddle music and its contemporary development. to increase understanding of its links with other cultural and artistic traditions, particularly those of song and dance. and to act as a conduit for these traditions. It fulfils these objectives by providing group instruction to the general public on the fiddle and its associated traditions, with particular emphasis on Scottish traditional fiddle styles and on learning by ear. We provide a community amenity, enabling people to participate in playing Scottish traditional fiddle music as a social group activity at all levels of skill,. We add to the cultural life of Strachur, embracing Scots heritage through its music. We encourage everyone who is interested to get involved, actively supporting those who, due to financial disadvantage. geography or lack of public transport, might otherwise be unable to participate.
