What the charity exists to do
The Scottish Society for the History of Photography is a charity dedicated to promoting photography and encouraging public engagement with its history, development and contemporary practice. We achieve this through an ambitious programme of photography exhibitions and events, alongside the publication of books, journals and other research. Central to our purpose is connecting the rich history of photography with contemporary practitioners, demonstrating how early photographic processes, ideas and innovations continue to influence artists today. Through exhibitions, publishing, research and public engagement, we make photographic heritage accessible to new and diverse audiences, support artists and scholarship, and encourage a deeper understanding and appreciation of photography’s important contribution to Scotland’s cultural life.
