02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The charitable purpose of the Band is to educate the public in the arts and sciences, and in particular, the art of band and wind ensemble music, by the presentation of concerts and other related activities. We provide opportunity for members of the community to play woodwind, brass and percussion instruments within a wind band, under professional direction. We operate an open entrance with a ‘no audition’ policy to encourage those adults learning music, or returning to music after a period, to enjoy playing in an ensemble at any musical level, and to improve their ability over time. We perform concerts for the benefit of the local community both at our home venue and around the Edinburgh community. Entry for most of our concerts is either free or by donation. We only charge for concert entry at our annual Edinburgh Festival Fringe performance.
