02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The Community Foundation for Planetary Healing (The Planetary Healing Centre) is set up to improve people's mental health and wellbeing. We support people of all ages struggling with stress, anxiety, low mood, or isolation to feel calmer, healthier, and more connected, using time in nature to restore emotional balance. We do this through group-based, outdoor programmes in the community woodland we care for in Balerno, Edinburgh. Being active outdoors and connecting with others in a supportive group is a recognised way to ease stress, lift mood, and build resilience. We run dedicated men's groups, women's groups, and family groups, alongside nature-connection sessions, forest school, and bushcraft, delivered by experienced facilitators and trained volunteers and underpinned by robust safeguarding and risk-assessment policies. Through this work we aim to improve mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing, reduce isolation, and support long-term resilience.
