02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Spiritual Assembly of Lerwick has been set up to advance the Baha'i Faith, a world religion, here in Lerwick, Shetland and is a part of the National Baha'i community of the UK. It shares the ideals, and assists the efforts of the Baha'is here in Lerwick to establish, uphold, and promote the spiritual, educational and humanitarian teachings of human brotherhood, radiant faith, exalted character and selfless love revealed in the lives of all the Prophets of God and given renewed creative energy and universal application to the conditions of this age in the life and utterances of Baha'u'llah. It was set up to administer the affairs' of the Faith in accordance with the principles of Baha'i administration and above all sees as its sacred duty to maintain full and complete unity throughout the Baha'i community, to offer relief and comfort to the distressed, to assist the poor and destitute, to educate the children of Baha'is and further other charitable purposes it may decide on.

Constitutional objectives
The advancement of the Baha'i Faith, sharing the ideals of our fellow Baha'is and assisting their efforts to establish, uphold and promote the spiritual, educational and humanitarian teachings of human brotherhood, radiant faith, exalted character and selfless love revealed in the lives and utterances of all the Prophets and Messengers of God, Founders of the world's revealed religions, and given renewed creative energy and universal application to the conditions of this age in the life and utterances of Baha'u'llah. The advancement of education in accordance with the principles of the Baha'i Faith. The relief of the poor and needy of Lerwick and throughout the world, whether Baha'is or not. The establishment in Lerwick, as soon as resources permit, of a House of Worship and its associated institutions. To further such other charitable purposes as the Assembly may decide.
