02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Sound Lab was set up to provide access to music and music tuition to children and young people with barriers to access. We do this by organising tutor classes, workshops and programmes with professional tutors, and employ a 'free to the point of use' approach which involves us paying the tutors (the official Music Union rates), paying for travel to/from the learning space, and providing any instruments/equipment required for the sessions to take place. We also aim to provide industry experience and pathways, which can include young people performing live on local radio, or in a recording studio.
