02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Còisir Dhùn Èideann (SC035141) is set up as a choir that sings in Scottish Gaelic. We hold weekly rehearsals in central Edinburgh, arranged over three terms. We have a regular meeting time and venue, and we publicise our rehearsals and Secretary’s contact details on our website, in relevant locations and on social media, thus ensuring that rehearsals are as accessible and welcoming as possible. We give public performances and take part in events or festivals and hold open workshops on Gaelic song. We advance the education of the public in the practice of Scottish Gaelic Music by teaching choir members and by reaching out to audiences at events, to workshop participants and to participants at events where we are invited to have a choir stall. The choir is managed by a committee with office bearers elected annually by members at an AGM, in accordance with our constitution. Our rehearsals are led by a conductor/musical director. help is given with Gaelic pronunciation and music.
