02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Fountainbridge Canalside Community Trust (FCCT) aims to make our local area a better place to live, work, do business and visit! Our current activities include: RE-UNION CANAL BOATS – 2 boats providing funded on-board programmes, special events, community group trips and private hires VOLUNTEERING – one-off and regular activities, training and development opportunities on and around the canal (last year 3,298 hours were given by 172 volunteers) CANALSIDE WELLBEING WALKING GROUP – weekly walks part of the Scottish Health Walks Network EDINBURGH CANAL FESTIVAL and COMMUNITY EVENTS – we organise and get involved with large and small local events, particularly those with a wellbeing focus CANALSIDE GREENSPACE GROUP – exploring and improving our local greenspace, for people and for nature Generally we are interested in any opportunities that strengthen our community economically, environmentally or culturally, and promote social inclusion, sustainability and wellbeing.

Constitutional objectives

The company has been formed to benefit principally those living within the Fountainbridge area in Edinburgh and the areas closely adjacent to the Union Canal which comprise “the Community”. The relevant map and postcodes for the area of benefit are set out in the Appendix to these M&A’s. The objects of the company shall be: (1) The advancement of community development (including the advancement of urban regeneration principally within the Community). (2) The relief of those in need by reason of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage (3) The advancement of citizenship. (4) The advancement of environmental protection or improvement. (5) The advancement of the arts, heritage, culture or science. But only to the extent that the above purposes are consistent with furthering the achievement of sustainable development.
