02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Dhammapadipa Temple operates to support Thai and local community in Buddhist teaching and service. The UK Home Office authorised us to become an “A” rated Sponsor License Holder to allocate working visas to monks whom were suitable for working at our Edinburgh Temple and servicing our community in Scotland. We have forged positive links with partner agencies such as Police Scotland, Shakti Womens Aid, ELREC and our local MP and MSPs to name but a few. We are an authorised Third Party Reporting centre for crime and intelligence affecting our community. We assist and support our community whom have become victims of crime/destitute due to violent domestic abuse, fraud, racism and other criminality or social issues. We became the Buddhist single point of contact for any Scottish Prison Service inmates that requested Buddhist guidance, as well as the SPOC for Police Scotland in the event of major events impacting on Thai people in Scotland. We run wellbeing projects.
