02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

TYKES Young Carers' Project, established in 1997, offers respite and support to young people between the ages of 5 and 25 in Sutherland who have a caring role within their home. We make a positive difference in the lives and wellbeing of Young Carers and their families by offering advice along with emotional and practical support. TYKES advocates for Young Carers and raises awareness of their issues by engaging with the community, statutory agencies and other organisations.

Constitutional objectives

The company’s objects are: (a) to relieve the poverty and distress, increase the health and welfare, and advocate the education and (b) to promote the benefit of young carers and young adult carers of Sutherland and its environs without distinction of sex, sexuality, political, religious or other opinions by associating the local statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities or assist in the provision of facilities, in the interest of social welfare for recreation and other leisure time occupation so that their conditions of life may be improved.
