02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The Western Isles Transport Preservation Group (WITPG) is a voluntary run charitable organisation made up of commercial vehicle enthusiasts. The aims of the Group are: 1) To record and promote the transport history of the Outer Hebrides. 2) To organise related events and activities. and, 3) Where possible, to restore vehicles of historical importance to the isles.

Constitutional objectives

To advance education for the public benefit in the tradition and heritage of air, marine and road transport of the Western Isles. In furtherance thereof, but not otherwise, the Company shall seek: (a) to promote the preservation and conservation of such vehicles as are owned by the Company. (b) to enhance the learning, teaching and appreciation of marine and road transport in relation to traditional and contemporary Island society and culture. (c) to encourage young people and those of limited means to have a greater knowledge of the Isles and their marine and road transport traditions and associated skills. (d) to encourage, so far as is charitable in law, the improvement of the social welfare of the Islands and the improvement of communications skills within the Islands. (e) to promote and organise cooperation in the achievement of these objects and to that end bring together representatives of the authorities and organisations engaged in the furtherance of these objects. and (f) to do all other such things as are charitable in law for the attainment of these objects.
