Constitutional objectives
To promote the benefit of the inhabitants of the Community, without distinction on grounds of race, political, religious, or other opinions, by associating with the local statutory authorities, voluntary organisations and inhabitants in a common effort to advance education and to provide, or assist in providing, facilities for recreation and other leisure-time occupation, following principles of sustainable development and in the interests of social welfare so that their conditions of life may be improved, where 'sustainable development' means development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. (1) To advance the education of the Community about its environment, culture and/or history. (2) To conserve, preserve and protect the wild life, flora and fauna of the Taft Woodland for the benefit of the aforesaid persons. and (3) To advance the education of the public generally and in particular the inhabitants of the aforesaid area about the Taft Woodland, its wildlife, flora and fauna and their conservation, preservation and protection and in furtherance thereof but not otherwise (a) To develop and manage the Taft Woodland and Mowbray Burn water catchment area and their natural resources. (b) To encourage the bio-diversity of the area identifying and preserving rare plant species for natural study. (c) To encourage public access and education by organising natural walks, wild life observation, photo-stalking, ecological surveys and publishing the results thereof. (d) To conserve the quality and scenic character of the Taft. (e) To link with educational institutions as a resource centre for the study of the environment, wildlife, community participation and forest management. (f) To similarly link with other groups/bodies in the aforesaid area for similar study. (g) To increase the diversity of tree species.
