02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

We support 'last mile' community based intervention by providing technical support and tools to better equip them to fight dog mediated rabies in their communities. Alongside this we raise awareness of the disease, through a global day of action, World Rabies Day.

Constitutional objectives

1. To relieve the suffering of animals and promote animal welfare and conservation in developing countries of Asia and Afridca, in particular but not exclusively, by alleviating the burden of rabies and, 2. to promote public health and advance the education of the public in matters regarding rabies and the risk of infection. In furtherance thereof but not otherwise ARC shall seek to achieve the objects through the following activities: (1) To undertake surveillance of rabies in animal hosts and humans. (2) Education of major target groups, in particular health workers, animal health personnel, wildlife agencies and the general public - principally children, who are at most risk of infection. (3) Control of rabies by either or both preventative and/or reactive measures, with a focus on controls in the reservoir host (most usually dogs). 3. To integrate local stakeholders/beneficiaries and/or local and national government at all stages of the above activities.
