02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Pathhead Youth Project runs a youth drop-in and activity programme for young people in P6 and above living in Pathhead and the wider Tynewater area. We open two evenings a week at Pathhead Village Hall during school term time, staffed by our employed youth worker with support from freelance sessional youth workers. Sessions offer sport, games, arts and crafts, baking and a safe, welcoming place for young people to meet, with trusted adults on hand. Alongside drop-in we run a subsidised summer programme of outdoor trips, offering free and subsidised places to young people identified as in need by Tynewater Primary School, together with Halloween and Christmas parties, a Village Day stall, workshops and Youth Scotland Youth Awards. We are funded by grants, principally from Midlothian Council, and by local donations and fundraising. We work in partnership with Tynewater Parish Church, which funds a second youth worker for one of our two weekly sessions.
