02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

We are the national third sector membership organisation for the health and social care sector. We work to improve the wellbeing of people and communities across Scotland by supporting change in health, social care and other public services so they better meet the needs of everyone in Scotland. We do this by bringing together the expertise of people with lived experience, the third sector, and organisations across health and social care to shape better services and support positive change.

Constitutional objectives

1 The company’s objects are: 1.1 the advancement of health. 1.2 the advancement of education. 1.3 the advancement of human rights, conflict resolution or reconciliation. and 1.4 the relief of those in need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage. in particular for those people who are disabled, living with long term conditions (including those living with deafness, hearing loss, sight loss and deafblindness), experiencing palliative care, and who are, or have been, unpaid carers, principally through: 1.5 the creation and ongoing management of a network of organisations which are established for similar objectives. 1.6 the provision of education to the public on the causes, effects, treatment and management of long-term conditions which affect the people supported by the company. 1.7 the promotion of equality and diversity in respect of those people supported by the company including through the development of policy initiatives and establishing a dialogue with public sector and other bodies, in this regard. 1.8 the provision of support and assistance to those affected by problems in accessing appropriate health care, social care and/or welfare support and their families and carers (including young carers).
