Constitutional objectives
To preserve for the public benefit (and for study by such scholars and other persons as the company shall think appropriate) the collection of books incunabula manuscripts & other papers in the ownership of the Right Honourable Mary Katherine Lindsay Dowager Countess of Crawford & Balcarres (all of which as are situate at Balcarres House are hereinafter together referred to as 'the library') or such part thereof as shall be acquired by the company for any interest (whether on loan or on lease or by way of gift or purchase or otherwise). To preserve for the public benefit such pictures states furniture plate an other articles (herein-after referred to as 'the art collection') as the interest (whether on loan or on lease or by way of gift or purchase or otherwise and whether or not the same have in recent years been kept at Balcarres House aforesais or elsewhere) & to promote for the public benefit the study and appreciation of the art collection as works of art or objects of historic or artistic interest. to preseve for the public benefit the mansion house known as Balcarres House aforesais together with its ancillary buildings gardens parkland and other adjacent land or such part or parts thereof as shall from time be held for any interest by the company *which premises as from time to time held by the company are hereinafter referred to as 'Balcarres') and to promote for the public benefit the study and appreciation of balcarres as a place of historic & architectural interest & natural beauty. to advance the education of the public in the arts ans sciences in such other manner as thereafter appears. to use any other part of the grounds of Balcarres for providing in the interests of social welfare facilities for physical recreation. to facilitate & encourage the use, occupation and enjoyment of the whole or any part of Balcarres & the library and the art collection for such other exclusively charitable purposes as the company from time to time considers appropriate.
