02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Established in 2008, Craft Scotland is the leading charity for contemporary craft. In our role as the national development agency, our vision is to make Scotland a place where craft’s vital role in our society is recognised as culturally important and essential to our economy. We support the whole craft sector - makers, curators, educators, craft initiatives, organisations, craft businesses. Our core work includes presenting craft, creating learning opportunities, public engagement and audience development, and communications. We lead on sector advocacy, emphasising craft’s value and highlighting its connections to national strategies in areas such as education, health, enterprise, tourism and exporting. We have long-established partnerships with organisations across the country which enable us to connect with new audiences and stakeholders, and this shared expertise helps us broaden the scope of our programmes.
