02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The Garden was officially opened by T.V. Personality, Jim McColl of Beechgrove Garden on 27th September, 2008 and named “The William Forsyth Community Garden” after William Forsyth who was born in Oldmeldrum in 1737 and became a gardener of great renown at a time of great achievements in horticulture. We have therefore now more or less fulfilled the objectives of providing a Community Garden that gives (1) visitors a place of tranquillity and beauty with impressive views of Barra Hill and the Bennachie range beyond, while enjoying gentle exercise walking around the paths (2) to create an impressive gateway to those entering or passing through Oldmeldrum (3) for use by educational groups studying the bio-diversity of the local area. (4) provide opportunities for young people to gain work experience while assisting with establishing the garden and with ongoing maintenance.
