02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Sorted Project was established in 2008 to support adults experiencing difficulties due to substance dependency and mental health. We worked with people in both groups and one to one meetings linking them with supportive vocational opportunities. As a small grassroots organisation, our work continues to be delivered in partnership with the voluntary and statutory sectors. Having developed a programme of training and volunteering opportunities on a community canal boat in Edinburgh, we launched our own boat, Panacea, in 2019. Since then we have developed more partnerships, linked with more organisations and supported more people to become a crew member and learn to sail Panacea. This is a unique space for recovery and provides a supportive environment for those on what can often be quite a difficult journey. We became a Royal Yachting Training Centre and can now deliver training onboard to provide nationally recognised qualifications with excellent transferable skills.

Constitutional objectives
3. The company's objects are: (a) To establish and run a free training programme operating in Edinburgh and Lothian area delivering life coping skills and strategies for individuals who are experiencing disadvantage through impaired health, whether mental and/or physical and addiction to drugs and/or alcohol. (b) The relief of poverty of persons in Edinburgh and the Lothian who are in need, due to economic circumstances brought about by impaired health, whether mental and/or physical and their history of drug and/or alcohol addiction.
