02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Lochside is set up to benefit the local community by providing and managing a purpose-built multi-use facility on the outskirts of Stornoway. We aim to improve quality of life by advancing education, encouraging participation in sport and recreation, and supporting community development in an inclusive and accessible way. We do this by operating a safe, weather-protected venue that includes indoor and outdoor arenas, stabling, and supporting facilities. The arena is used for equestrian activities and other events that promote physical activity, learning, and social connection for people of all ages and abilities. The charity delivers its work directly by organising and hosting activities, and events, as well as making the facility available for hire. Through this work we promote equality and diversity, reduce barriers to participation, and ensure Lochside Arena remains a valued community resource that supports wellbeing, inclusion, and active citizenship.

3. The Company's charitable purposes (the expression 'charitable purpose' shall mean a charitable purpose under section 7 of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 which is also regarded as a charitable purpose in relation to the application of the Taxes Acts) are (and shall not be altered without the prior consent of the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator): 3.1.1 The advancement of education. 3.1.2 The advancement of citizenship and community development. 3.1.3 The advancement of public participation in sport. 3.1.4 The provision of recreational facilities and the organisation of recreational activities, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended. 3.1.5 The promotion of equality and diversity. 3.1.6 The relief of those in need by reason of age, ill health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.
