02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

To collate, preserve and display information relating to the history of Flotta in the Museum/Heritage Centre with a 1940's themed cottage alongside designed to complement the World War II heritage of the Island, and to display information on the history of the Island generally and that of the surrounding area including the development and impact of the Oil Terminal. The Trust will also assist with the conservation/interpretation of the various wartime sites on the island.

Constitutional objectives

3. Purposes of the Trust The Trustees shall hold the Trust Fund and the income of it to pay and apply the same to or for the benefit of or in furtherance of the following purposes:- (i) The advancement of education and public knowledge by promoting public knowledge and understanding of the history of the Island of Flotta, Orkney and in particular without prejudice to the foregoing generality the social, cultural and domestic impact of Word War II on the said Island. (ii) The furtherance of such purposes, objects or institutions charitable in law which are involved in the advancement of education and public knowledge of the history of Orkney generally.
