02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Stramash Social Enterprise is a leading Scottish charity and social enterprise dedicated to transforming lives through high-quality outdoor learning. We operate a network of award-winning outdoor nurseries in Oban, Fort William, Elgin, and Tornagrain, providing Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) in partnership with local authorities. Our mission is to nurture resilient, independent, and healthy children by using the natural environment as our primary classroom. By moving beyond four walls, we deliver the Curriculum for Excellence through nature-based play, fostering a deep connection to the environment while improving physical and mental wellbeing. As a social enterprise, we reinvest all surpluses to enhance our facilities and ensure outdoor education is accessible to families from all backgrounds, helping to close the attainment gap. Beyond early years, we advocate for outdoor pedagogy and provide training to strengthen the sector across Scotland.
