02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Dragon Boats on Loch Ken was set up in 2011 originally for breast cancer survivors. In 2013 they expanded their remit to include anyone over the age of 12. We currently have two Dragon Boats each of which can accomodate up to 20 paddlers plus a helm. Paddling is a gentle, low impact sport and is suitable for any level of fitness. We paddle on Sunday mornings from April through to October, weather permitting. We are based out of Galloway Activity Centre on the A713. We have a number of trained Helms, all volunteers, all local. Our Trustees are all local people and all volunteers. Our aim is to provide an inclusive environment for all who come along. We have people who are cancer survivors, have spina bifida, are registered blind, are stroke survivors. All we ask is that you feel confident in water - we provide a buoyancy aid and a safety briefing.
