02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The charity was set up to provide opportunities for children & young people in Dundee who are deaf, have a visual impairment (VI) or both, which enhance their education and/or their welfare. Such opportunities may be to take part in group events or trips (eg outings linked with experiential learning or socialising with other who are deaf, have a VI or both). for individuals who are looking for funding to participate in activities such as volunteer/adventure trips. for pupils to access more fully, aspects of learning with are more easily attained by others (eg, through the provision resources such as sensory stories or story sacks). When requests are made for specific grants to enable these types of activity, the charity disburses funds.

Constitutional objectives

The objects of the Trust are:- (i) to advance the education of sensory impaired children and young persons (hereinafter referred to as 'sensory impaired children') living in Dundee and surrounding areas. (ii) to promote the welfare, and to facilitate the improvement of the conditions of life of sensory impaired children. (iii) to work with orther societies and groups interested in advancing the education or in promoting the welfare, of sensory impaired children or disabled persons. and (iv) in furtherance of these objects, to create and operate a fund to be known as the 'S.H.I.N.E Fund'.
