02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The Welcoming Association supports asylum seekers, refugees and migrants in Edinburgh and the Lothians to build new lives, develop their skills and participate in their communities. We promote social inclusion, equality, and wellbeing, helping people overcome barriers linked to displacement, poverty, language, and discrimination. We do this through English language classes, employability and digital skills support, befriending, community activities, wellbeing support, holistic casework and energy advice. Our community fridge helps households access food and reduce waste. We bring people together to build friendships, share cultures and strengthen community connections. We also work with partners and draw on participants’ experiences to inform advocacy for better services and policies.
