Constitutional objectives

The Objects of the Association are, for the public benefit: 3.1 To advance vocational, further and higher education and training both for adults and young persons resident in the United Kingdom and overseas, in particular (without limitation) by providing and maintaining a centre of learning founded on Christian principles and adopting Christian values initially derived from the Paris Basis and adopted from time to time by the World Alliance of Young Mens Christian Associations. The charity welcomes, serves and works with persons of all religious faiths and of none. 3.2 The advancement of research in respect of children or young people for the benefit of the public and to publish the useful results of such research. 3.3 The promotion, for the benefit of the public, of the efficiency, effectiveness and impact of charities established to support children or young persons, the promotion of the effective use of resources for charitable purposes in support of children or young persons, and the promotion of the voluntary youth sector, in particular but not exclusively by: (i) liaising between charities, voluntary organisations, government agencies and other groups on relevant issues. (ii) providing training, conferences and seminars on relevant subjects. (iii) identifying needs in the voluntary youth sector and establishing projects or policies to address them. (iv) providing relevant information to the press and the public on the operation of, or problems encountered by, the voluntary youth sector. and (v) acting as a representative of the voluntary youth sector in relation to government policies and legislation. The definition of ‘voluntary’ is independent organisations, which are established for purposes that add value to the community as a whole, or a significant section of the community, and which are not permitted by their constitution to make a profit for private distribution. Voluntary organisations do not include local government or other statutory authorities.
