02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
St Martin’s Community Resource Centre (SMCRC) exists to provide an accessible, welcoming and affordable community space for people and organisations in Edinburgh, particularly those serving the local Gorgie, Dalry and surrounding communities. We provide rooms and facilities that enable community groups, charities, voluntary organisations and individuals to deliver activities that promote community participation, wellbeing, education, recreation and social inclusion. The centre is used for a wide range of activities, including health and wellbeing groups, exercise and dance classes, children’s and youth activities, arts and music, English language learning, advocacy and support services, cultural activities, social groups and community events. We work to keep our facilities affordable and accessible, including offering reduced hire rates to registered charities. Constitutional objectives
The organisation’s purposes are: to promote the benefit of the public in South West Edinburgh in general and Gorgie Dalry areas of Edinburgh in particular. to advance religion, citizenship, community development, public health and wellbeing or heritage by maintaining St Martin’s Community Resource Centre, and by letting to charities, social enterprises and other occupiers with a community purpose or benefit, space within the Centre.
