02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The purpose of SHN is to support social landlords in Scotland to deliver customer-focused, efficient, and effective services that are of the highest quality and offer value for money. This purpose is furthered by: • Undertaking research, study and assessment to benchmark good practice in the provision of housing in Scotland. • Encouraging and facilitating the sharing of information and experience among Members to support good practice (now and in the future) in the provision of housing in Scotland. • Providing training, including to other organisations, in areas connected with the above. • Making representations on behalf of the charity regarding practical and policy issues that support good practice in the provision of housing in Scotland.

Constitutional objectives

2.1 The advancement of citizenship or community development (including rural or urban regeneration and the promotion of civic responsibility, volunteering, the voluntary sector or the effectiveness or efficiency of charities). 2.2 The prevention or relief of poverty. 2.3 The advancement of environmental protection or improvement. 2.4 The relief of those of need by reason of age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage. 2.5 The advancement of human rights. 2.6 The promotion of equality and diversity. 2.7 The advancement of education (in so far as it promotes purposes 2.1 to 2.6) The foregoing purposes charitable purposes, which are designed to principally benefit those in Scotland and with the Company being focused on enhancing the standard of provision of housing and related services are to be particularly furthered by . (1) undertaking research, study and assessment to benchmark good practice in the provision of housing in Scotland. (2) encouraging and facilitating the sharing of information and experience among members to support good practice (now and in the future) in the provision of housing in Scotland. (3) providing (including to other organisations) training in areas connected with the foregoing. and (4) making representations to other organisations, stakeholders and parties on behalf of the Company regarding practical and policy issues that support good practice (now and in the future) in provision of housing in Scotland.
