02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Friends of Campbeltown Museum was founded in 1991 as a pressure-group to campaign for overdue improvements to the Museum and to secure the appointment of a curator. These aims were ultimately achieved and the charity now exists to support the Museum financially (e.g., by the purchase of equipment) and by helping staff the Museum, when required, and providing volunteers to assist at events. The Friends also help maintain public awareness of the Museum and remain alert to the possibility that, as funding for public services dwindles, there may be a future need to campaign on behalf of the Museum, should its functionality - or even existence - come under threat.
