02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Cùram Thiriodh is located on the Isle of Tiree, with a population of circa 700 people, sparsely distributed across 30 square miles. The geography means that many homes have little or no support within close proximity and therefore rely on Cùram Thiriodh’s services. Our focus is combatting loneliness, supporting mental wellbeing, encouraging fitness, and promoting general good health. Our client base is primarily older people, often living alone or taking on the role of carer within their home. Many have limited interaction or support from family, friends and/or neighbours. however, no one is excluded from using the service. We aim to provide much-needed practical, face-to-face emotional and social support in safe, welcoming and supportive environments. Cùram also manages a Meals on Wheels service, delivered in partnership with Argyll and Bute, Tigh a Rhuda Care Home, who prepares two-course hot meals, and is one of the few remaining services of its kind in the country.
