02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

SCAN is the member-led network for contemporary art in Scotland. We connect, champion, and cultivate Scotland’s contemporary art community. We create capacity for change. We build collaboration, provide support and drive change for the benefit of members, the wider visual art community, and the people of Scotland. We work with our members to promote understanding of the artistic, social, and economic impact of their work. We work in and beyond the membership to help build a fairer future for the sector and its audiences, supporting critical thinking and action around equalities, sustainability, and fair work. Our programmes, partnerships and projects help artists, art workers and arts organisations to thrive. We ensure they are better informed, better represented within policy settings, and better supported and resourced to deliver contemporary art activity for communities across Scotland.
