02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Friends of Hilary Storm School Uganda (FOHSSU) is set up: A/to provide a high standard of education for the benefit of communities in eastern Uganda. B/ for the relief and prevention of poverty and C/ for the advancement of environmental protection. FOHSSU raises funds to invest in projects that will enable the Hilary Storm Nursery and Primary School to become self sustaining through running its own enterprises, mostly agricultural related and be able to increase its provision of education of a high standard to the impoverished local community the majority of whom are peasant farmers. The presence of the school and its activities contribute significantly to the development of the local economy through agriculture related activities, notably a commercial grinding mill (rice and maize processing) in an area where there is currently limited investment of any significance. An education bursary fund funded by FOHSSU supports an average of 45 totally poor children at any one time.
