02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

Promotion of study and research into the former North British Railway, its constituent companies and its successors (together referred to as “the NBR”) and the dissemination of information relative to the NBR. The primary vehicle for this is the Group's Journal, published thrice-annually, comprising an eclectic selection of articles relating to the NBR. These are, principally, submitted by the membership themselves to reflect the Group's diverse interests, research and expertise. These are illustrated by photographs, maps and drawings, the latter often demonstrating a a high degree of professionalism. The Group's publications also include reprints of original documents, such as timetables, operating rules and publicity materials, sold through the Website The Group encourage social interaction among the members, both in person and, more recently, taking advantage of internet contact, as well as public interaction through attending model railway exhibitions.
