02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Throughout the year the church has continued to hold regular church services in Thorntree Hall in Thornliebank. A varied programme of Bible teaching is offered for adults and children. The church is involved in the local area through a number of initiatives. These include supporting the local foodbank (Helping Hands) with monthly donations from members, craft and coffee mornings at Easter and Christmas where crafts produced by local people are sold. Members of the church also visit the local Trust Housing Complex monthly and hold services and social evenings with the residents. There is a Scripture Union group which meets in the local primary school and is organised/run by some church members. There is also a local walking group which meets every Wednesday outside Thorntree Hall. It is open to all and the group is a mixture of church members/local residents. In addition, the charity continues to support Christian work in the UK and overseas.

Constitutional objectives
SGC exists to advance religion by the following activities: - Worshipping God. - Equipping its members through Bible teaching, study and pastoral care and encouraging their active participation in the life of the church. - Administering the ordinances of baptism and communion. - Making known the gospel of Jesus Christ through preaching and personal evangelism, and any other means consistent with the teachings of the Bible. - Nurturing Christian fellowship, a sense of belonging and being a valued part of a loving, caring family among all who would consider SGC to be their church. - Supporting and encouraging participation in missions work, local, national, and international. - Bringing benefit to the community by serving individuals, families, churches and charitable groups in our local community, nationally and internationally by helping as we are able, to provide for practical, emotional and spiritual needs, in the name of Jesus Christ. Striving to be an example of authentic biblical Christianity both in the generation and the geographical area in which SGC finds itself
