02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The BDRG is based in the Seaboard Villages, Easter Ross, Highland – serving the Balintore and District residents and visitors. It is managed by a committee of volunteers known as the Balintore & District Residents Group. As a charity our aim is for the prevention or relief of poverty within our community through community learning opportunities, through workshops. training and social engagement. We also plan and deliver recreational facilities and activities with the object of improving the conditions of life for the residents whom the charity is primarily intended. The BDRG operate in accordance with the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) and is a member club of Youth Highland. Ultimately, we aim to provide our immediate community the opportunity for advancement in their education to boost confidence and provide the tools for life.

Constitutional objectives
The organisation?s purposes are: 1.Prevention or relief of poverty ? 1.1 By annually renewing our application to be a Registered Tenants Organisation with the local authority thus being closely involved in decision making regarding our Social Housing residents. 1.2 By providing facilities for a weekly Work Club to help all residents within the 3 villages to find and apply for employment. We also provide volunteers to assist with IT support. 2 Advancement of education - 2.1 To assist our non-English speaking residents we make our community hall available for weekly English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) class. We have local residents trained in delivering these classes as needed. 2.2 We are now running an Adult Literacy class to help local residents improve their abilities in reading and form filling etc. These classes are run by local volunteers trained to help others. 2.3 We provide the facilities of our community hall for the running of annual classes in basic First Aid, Child Protection and Activity Training. Trained volunteers help as needed. 3. Provision of leisure facilities - 3.1 Through the management and running of our hall - the Community Pavilion. 3.2 Engaging in community led projects for developing leisure facilities within the boundaries of our community.
