02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

We are set to up for the advancement of health by addressing social , health and Wellbeing needs of men and women of all ages and backgrounds living in Dumfries and surrounding area. We do this through the creation and upkeep and development of facilities in which people can jointly or individually undertake creative physical or recreational activities of their choice. We provide a warm hub in winter an affordable hot meal program, we undertake community projects, we encourage our members to learn and share skills and offer support to them while doing so. With more of us living alone this can lead to social isolation. 40% of older people living in scotland are affected by lonlines. This can have serious impacts on health. 79% of those who attend a shed regularlyu feel that their mental health has improved. we are are not just for the retired we are here for all ages and walks of life.

Constitutional objectives

The organisation’s purpose is: The advancement of health by addressing the social, health and well-being needs primarily of men of all ages and a few women with backgrounds living in Dumfries and the surrounding area. We will do this through the creation, upkeep and development of facilities in which men / women can meet jointly, or individually, to undertake creative physical and recreational activities of their choice. The provision of recreational facilities, or the organisation of recreational activities with the object of improving the conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended.
