02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
Heart Of Africa UK is set up to promote racial harmony, relieve poverty and advance health and wellbeing within African, ethnic minority and wider communities in Scotland. We bring people from different cultural backgrounds together through community activities that encourage understanding, friendship and inclusion.We deliver practical projects including community lunch clubs, healthy cooking and nutrition sessions, women’s sewing and empowerment activities, cultural events, volunteering and skills development. We support older people experiencing isolation, low-income families, asylum seekers, New Scots and people from minority ethnic communities who may face barriers to services and opportunities.Through food, culture, volunteering, education and community engagement, we create safe spaces where people can connect, develop skills, improve their wellbeing and feel valued. We work with local organisations and community partners to identify needs and reduce inequality.
