02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
The club was founded in 1961 as a Not-for -Profit Organisation producing many boxers over the previous 64 years. We are fully inclusive and welcome all members of the community. Most do not box competitively but attend for the overall physical and mental wellbeing boxing provides. It gives people of all ages, but particularly younger people a sense of belonging and the determination to succeed in adult life. We have had the pleasure of seeing many local youngsters go on to have successful careers whilst staying grounded. Boxing is an affordable sport, and we would like to keep it that way so that no one is excluded through financial hardship. That is the overall objective of AABC, and the coaching staff and referees and judges take no financial renumeration from giving up many hours a week to ensure the Clubs ongoing commitment to the Community. We hold a boxing show each year to help raise funds for the club with additional sponsored events during the year when needed.
