02 Purpose and work
What the charity exists to do
We are a small local charity based not far from Stranraer town centre. We are easily reached from all areas of the town. For over 10 years we have developed a pathway for children and young people aged 3-16years from Stranraer and surrounding areas which supports them through different projects, providing both indoor and outdoor fun, active sessions. Children and young people in Stranraer grow up with Stranraer YMCA being a big part of their development. We provide opportunities and experiences they may not otherwise have. We work closely with all local primary and secondary schools to provide sessions in school time as well as our own sessions out with school hours. Over the years we have built strong partnerships with various other local organisations including quarriers, police Scotland, Dumfries and Galloway Active Schools, local housing associations, Dumfries and Galloway Leisure and Sport and Dumfries and Galloway Youth Work Services.
