02 Purpose and work

What the charity exists to do

The Trust aims to advance community development within Kirkcudbright and its environs. To achieve this the Trust operates and assists in the operation of the Visitor Centre, Swimming Pool,, Planetarium in addition to providing meeting facilities within the Centre it operates. The Trust manages the Harbour Stage within the town which is utilised by local groups and artists. Through subsidiary companies the Trust operates a Caravan Park and Planetarium which encourage visitors to the town.

4 The SCIO’s purposes are to benefit the community of Kirkcudbright and District which comprises the postcode district of DG6(“the Community”) with the following objects: 4.1 The advancement of citizenship and community development within the Community. 4.2 The Advancement of the Arts, Heritage, Culture or Science 4.3 The Provision of Recreational Facilities or the organisation of recreational facilities, or the organisation of re creational activities, with the object of improving conditions of life for the persons for whom the facilities or activities are primarily intended 4.4 The Advancement of Education 4.5 The Advancement of Environmental Protection or Improvement But only to the extent that the above purposes are consistent with furthering the achievement of sustainable development.
